Projects

Finetech Medical's areas of expertise include:

  • Design, development and production of long-term implantable inductively coupled devices within a certified ISO 13485 quality management system.
  • Product driven objectives.
  • Sterilisation procedures.
  • Clinical trial and product approval requirements.
  • Flexibility to be able to produce one-off devices within a clean room environment.
  • Familiarity with requirements of both Active Implantable Medical Device Directive (AIMDD) and Medical Device Directive (MDD).

Recognition of our expertise and experience has led us to be involved in many collaboration projects over the years, including several high-profile EU Framework and DTI funded projects.  We are always interested in hearing from potential partners for future projects.   The collaboration projects we have been involved in include:

FP7 logoFP7 - NEUWalk

NEUWalk, partly funded by the EU Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) for Research and Technological Development, involves 9 partners, 3 of which are industrial, from across 6 EU countries.  The goal of the project is to develop a brain spinal neuroprosthetic interface system to restore voluntary motor functions in people with severe Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) and to establish a less invasive and safer surgical strategy to alleviate Parkinson's disease (PD) syndromes.

FP6 LogoFP6 - Healthy Aims

This EU Framework 6 Programme (FP6) project involving 26 partners, including 6 SMEs, across 9 EU countries. Aim was to develop a range of medical implants to help the ageing population and those with disabilities. Amongst the major outcomes of the project was the completion of initial clinical trials of the STIMuGRIP ® system.

Transceiver and Inertial Unit for Biomedical Applications

The EU Framework 5 Programme (FP5) project involving 6 partners, from across 3 EU countries.  The main focus of the project was to develop three microsystem components; namely: an inertial unit, a planar transmitter / receiver and a sensor / feedback control capability for use within a dropped foot stimulator (STIMuSTEP ®).

Improved Mobility through imPlanted fUnctional eLectrical Stimulation of nErves

The MedLINK project objective was to develop and trial a novel, 2-Channel, implantable stimulator to enhance locomotion in patients with a dropped foot, a chronic condition experienced especially by patients who have suffered a stroke.

EUREKA! IMPULSE project involving 7 partners, including 4 SMEs, from The Netherlands and UK.  The project focused on further developing and trialling of the novel, 2-Channel, implantable stimulator to enhance locomotion in patients with a dropped foot that was developed within IMPULSE (M181).

MedLINK P192

Neuromodulation through the sacral nerve roots for control of lower limb spasticity in spinal cord injury

MedLINK P192 involved 3 partners, all from the UK.  The project aimed to modify existing Finetech-Brindley bladder implants in order to provide a novel treatment for spasticity through the use of neuromodulation.

Tibial Nerve Stimulator

Implantable tibial nerve stimulator sucessfully developed and trialled for the treatment of urge incontinence

A project run in partnership with CystoMedix, Inc, now acquired by Uroplasty, to develop and trial an implantable version of their very succesful percutaneous tibial nerve stimulator.
